Where do I begin with Aurora’s story, I certainly did not think her story would go the way it did. Cora Carmack has outdone herself with this book. The verse entries on each chapter were amazing, I enjoyed reading those so much, as a chapter ended and a new one began I would get excited to see what would come next. I honestly think that when authors choose to write a verse or a quote from something, it gives you insight on what might happen. I know a lot of people think this may be annoying, they think sometimes it runs the purpose of the chapter they are about to encounter as they are reading. For me, I love it I might get an idea of what I’m reading about.
Now going back to Aurora’s story, Aurora is the Stormling(this is what their magic is called) princess of her kingdom, she thinks her mother only sees disappointment in her, she shelters Aurora, so others won’t find the truth about her, how she has no Stormling powers to protect the kingdom. Aurora feels as if she has not only failed her mother, but also her people. When her mother has chosen a prince for her to marry, she is determined to make things work between him, so they can rule in peace. Once, again she finds out not all is as it seems, she is betrayed by Cassius. As she finds out he is only trying to use her for his own good, she tries to find a way for her to be able to succeed alone.
Aurora then goes on a quest of her own, not wanting to be tied to a loveless marriage and to someone who is only using her for their own gain. She decides to go on a quest not only to find herself, but to learn from hunters how to be able to capture stormhearts to protect her kingdom from the Rage season. She learns about herself more than she bargains for, but in the end she learns not only about herself but falling in love.
Towards the end of the book you learn so much not only about Aurora, but also Cassius and Locke. Three characters which am sure will be somehow entwined in the second book Rage. The love triangle will definitely bring out the worst in Cassius who feels entitled to Aurora already, and Locke who really got to know Aurora’s feelings and personality, but he also doesn’t know she is the future queen. So he knows a lot less than he thinks.
